And here comes the practical part: this process can take several months , so it's best to do it well in advance and following the correct steps.

What does it mean to have your high school diploma recognized in Spain?
In Spain, the Ministry of Education distinguishes between:
- Homologate: to declare a degree or studies from another country equivalent to a Spanish degree, for example a Bachelor's degree.
- ValidateTo recognize foreign studies as equivalent to courses in the Spanish system, with the aim of continuing studies in Spain. For example, validating the first year of Bachillerato (Spanish pre-university studies).
If your goal is to access university , the most common thing for international students is to need the validation of their high school diploma, in order to later accredit access via UNEDasiss.
Who usually needs to homologate
Anyone who has completed studies in an educational system other than the Spanish one, and whose studies are officially recognized in their country, can apply for validation. Furthermore, these studies must meet the equivalency requirements for the Spanish Bachillerato (high school diploma ). As each country has its own educational system, the Ministry recommends reviewing the specific information for each country.
Although official lists exist indicating the equivalence of foreign qualifications to the Spanish Baccalaureate, the best tool for checking which qualifications are considered equivalent is the one provided by UNEDasiss on its website. You can view it here.
What documents do you need?
Generally, to validate your studies as equivalent to the Spanish Baccalaureate, you will need:
- Identification document: passport, NIE or NIF.
- Academic documentation:
- Academic certification of the last courses.
- Title or diploma equivalent to a Bachelor's degree.
Important! Official documents must be issued by the competent authorities of the country. These documents must be legalized and apostilled.
Legalization and official translation of documents
The legalization of documents depends on the country of origin. For European countries, legalization is not required. If you are from a non-European country that is a signatory to the Hague Convention, you will most likely need to legalize your documents and have them stamped with the Hague Apostille.

How to apply
You have two ways to do it:
Online
Follow these steps:
- Access the Electronic Office And sign up.
- Request the procedure "Application for recognition and validation of foreign non-university qualifications and studies".
- Complete the registration and review the generated documentation, including the conditional registration form, which is necessary to apply for UNEDasiss accreditation.
In‑person
If you are in Madrid, or anywhere else in Spain, you can do this in person. In Madrid, you can go to Los Madrazo, 17 ( click here to make an appointment) or to the Government Delegation located at Calle García de Paredes, 65 ( make an appointment ). If you wish to do this in person in your country of origin, go to the nearest Spanish Consulate .
Tax payment
To process the validation of non-university studies, payment of fee 079 is normally required , as proof of payment is a requirement to process it.
Conditional registration form
The registration form you receive after starting the process is required to enroll in educational institutions (such as Higher Vocational Training) or to take the UNEDasiss PCE exams . You can print the form from the online application and take it to any official registry office to have it stamped and validated.
When starting the homologation process, this voucher may allow you to continue with the university admission procedure , while waiting for the Ministry of Homologation to issue your definitively homologated Baccalaureate.
Deadlines, follow-ups and resolution
The Ministry indicates that you can "track the status" through the electronic headquarters, and that you will receive notification about the download of the credential when the homologation of the degree has been confirmed.
Processing times depend on the agency's workload and whether your application requires any additional information. Generally, you should expect the process to take approximately 6 months.
